ML Maki has taken WWII, and has created an alternate history timeline that is both detailed, believable, and thought provoking.Are these books filled with the roller coaster realistic combat action? Will you stay up all night reading because you Just can not put the book down? Absolutely! But even more impressive are her "World Building" skills. She has written characters that you will live and breath with, and seamlessly integrated them with actual historical figures.The research that she has obviously done to mesh and contrast, the 1990's technology and the 1940's technology alone makes these books worth a read. But the effort that she has made to pick up the nuisances and characteristics of the historical figures deserves serious applause!All of this pales in comparison to her characters, Spike, Hot Lips, Papa, Duck, and Moses. Will make you Cheer and they will make you cry, but more important they will make you think about the world we live in as well as the one they live in. They will make you think about how far we have come, and even more importantly they will make you think about how far we still have to go.Buy every book in this series (and the submarine series, which actually the same series from a different POV), and you WILL NOT be sorry. Don't start this series here. Begin with Her Father's War.If you saw the movie Final Countdown you know the set up well enough. Carrier battle group transported back to early in WWII. We quickly find out that it was not just that battle group but others around the world as well making this series reminiscent of John Birmingham's Axis of Time series. The concepts are the same but the execution is different. Both series are worth reading.I have been checking Amazon for about a month looking for this book and I will begin checking again in another four months. I enjoy the series very much.Everyone's taste differ but I think this entry is the best written so far. With the Battle of Britain successfully concluded many of our heroes get leave and most of the story shifts to the U.S.. A more personal and less action intensive entry to the series I found it a very welcome break from the non stop action of the earlier novels.
